lonely?

When everyone leaves you
it’s loneliness you feel,
when you leave everyone else
it’s solitude.
Love can sweep you
off your feet and carry you
along in a way
you've never known before.
But the ride always ends,
and you end up
feeling lonely and bitter.
Wait. It's not love
I'm describing.
I'm thinking of a monorail.
We are most of us
very lonely in this world;
you who have
any who love you,
cling to them and thank God.
Memories are the treasures
that we keep locked deep
within the storehouse of our souls,
to keep our hearts warm
when we are lonely.
The surest sign
of age is loneliness.
Loneliness and the
feeling of being unwanted
is the most terrible poverty.
You cannot be lonely
if you like the person
you're alone with.
A man is never
completely alone in this world.
At the worst,
he has the company of a boy,
a youth, and by and by
a grown man
- the one he used to be.
Life is full of misery,
loneliness, and suffering
- and it's all over much too soon.
